The Center for Child Care Workforce (CCW) is my chosen organization and the one I will continue to share its news on my blog.
To begin, the organization’s mission is to “improve the quality of early care and education for all children by promoting policy, research and organizing that ensure the early care and education workforce is well-educated, receives better compensation, and a voice in their workplace” (CCW, n.d).
The organization’s aim is to create a unified voice for the early care and education workforce. Their focus is on the early childhood educator perceived as an essential tool in the field of Early Childhood Education and ultimately the well-being of the child. I fully support such mission and find it relevant to our course study as we discuss the issue of changing demographics and diversity and the need for educators to be better prepared for the upcoming challenges.
The one particular issue from the organization’s website that caught my attention is the recent celebration of Worthy Wages Day annually occurring on May 1st. According to the website, “The Worthy Wage Campaign began in 1991 and was coordinated by CCW until 1999; it was initiated to draw attention to the importance of child care work and the urgent need to improve child care jobs” (CCW, n.d.). To advocate, the organization’s website offers many suggestions such as organizing rallies, conferences, lobbying efforts, public displays…etc. One of the suggestions is to plan a professional in-service on that day, to educate teachers, providers, and directors on how to use Model Work Standards. Unaware of such day, I took that idea and decided to implement it in my center and placed it on my center’s calendar for next year, so I can help my staff become aware too.
Hello Rolla,
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a worthy organization to subscribe to. The efforts of Worthy Wages Campaign will make it known how important the work of the childcare educator is. More importantly, improving the wage capability is a great cause to rally around.
Thanks for sharing.
