As this journey ends…

As an early childhood educator, learning about the international early childhood field has contributed to my professional growth in many ways .

To begin, the podcasts of Mr. Meridas Yora, Dr. Deevia Bhana, and Maysoun Chehab ignited my passion for becoming a worldwide child advocate; it showed me the power of the individual and motivated me to be more aware of opportunities within my own community. All of the podcast guests were able to make a difference by being proactive within their local community and react to their surroundings. Their work earned them a worldwide attention and made them international advocates.
Secondly, as a consequence to exploring the various early childhood websites for the past few weeks, I am better aware of the available resources for early childhood educators and the ways they each work to support the well-being of children. By exploring my chosen organization, Center for Child Care Workforce, for example, I became familiar with their efforts to improve the quality of early childhood education by focusing on the early childhood workforce.  I learned that the mentoring program I am currently part of is a product of their work and efforts. I also became aware of the “Worthy Wages Day” taking place annually on May 1st and aims to bring attention to the importance of the field and the need to improve jobs. Furthermore,  reading colleagues' posts about organizations such as UNICEF, UNESCO, CDF, and Save the Children made me aware of their tremendous efforts to support children as well.

Finally, one of the most important consequences of learning about the international early childhood field was appreciating what we have here in the United States. Despite all our shortcomings in the field, our children have access to basic needs that many others around the world do not. Reading through the posts of my colleagues every week, I realized the dire situation some children endure everyday and the privileges we overlook on a daily bases. These blessings put the burden on us, as a nation, to advocate, aid, and support others around the world until each and every child is reached.

Therefore, my one goal for the filed would be to establish contacts with colleagues around the world, particularly in areas where advocacy is needed the most and extend support. as a director, I have the power to educate other colleagues and share the knowledge I gain from my international contacts.

I would like to conclude by extending my gratitude to all those who have read my blog for the past few weeks or left a comment.

It has certainly been eye-opening to learn of early child education and care in other parts of the world- it puts what we have in a new perspective.
